A Senior Design Project in Systems Engineering takes two semesters to complete, always starting in the fall semester. The first semester is spent working on campus. During the second semester, students work directly for the customer (on-site), completing the work that was designed during the previous semester.
To respond as a funded subcontractor for the system design of a corporate Information System (IS). The competitive subcontracts are part of the Prime contractor's corporate strategy to develope firms. The scope of the Information Systems for mid-size (50-100 engineers) land developement firms. The scope of the Information System, inclucing the operational and performance features are to be nominated by the competing subcontractors in a funded System Design (SD) Phase. The subcontract final deliverable is a System Design Review (SDR). Intermediate formal reviews/deliverables, that include documentation and slide presentations, include IS Proposal Plan. The schedule for those reviews is established on the attached calandar.
The syllabus during this semester is flexable and depends on the customer 's needs. Red team reviews continue to take place and a final exhibition of the completed project takes place during final exam week on campus.
RED TEAM REVIEWS: These reviews take place every 6 weeks over both fall and spring semester.
Systems Engineering projects can be interdiscaplinary, incorporating Computer Science, Management, Electrical Engineering and Urban Systems Engineering skills. The Systems Engineering Department encourages students to be creative in finding new avenues for learning through senior design. Speak with your faculty representative about new ideas or questions that you have about interdiscaplinary projects.
